What is a tournament bracket generator?

A tournament bracket generator organizes a knockout competition. In single elimination, a participant leaves the competition after one loss, and each match winner advances to the next round. This bracket maker supports 3–32 entries, seeded or shuffled placement, automatic byes and an interactive path to a champion.

How to use the tournament bracket generator

  1. Enter 3–32 participants, one per line. Put the strongest seed first if you want seeded placement.
  2. Keep input order or enable Shuffle seeds, then generate the bracket. Higher seeds receive the available byes.
  3. Click a participant in a match with two known opponents to advance the winner. A bye advances automatically.
  4. Continue to the final and export the current round-by-round match list as an A4 PDF. Clear winners to restart with the same seeds.

Try this workflow

Enter seven teams in seed order and generate. The bracket has eight starting slots, one bye and six played matches. Click the winner of each ready match until the final is decided. Change an earlier winner to see later results on that path cleared.

Ways to use this tool

Club tournaments

Run a small chess, table-tennis or game tournament with a simple knockout format. Supply your own seeding order if skill matters.

Classroom competitions

Track quiz teams through a short competition and show which matches are ready to play.

Casual game nights

Shuffle seeds for an informal event. Save a match list before leaving the page so the draw is not lost.

How seeds, byes and changed winners work

The bracket expands to the next power of two. Seven participants use eight slots; nine use sixteen. A field of n participants needs n − 1 played matches to produce one champion.

Seed positions separate the top seeds in the draw. A participant paired with an empty starting slot receives a bye. A bye is an automatic advance, not a played win.

Changing a match winner clears later winner selections on that branch. Results on the unrelated branch remain. This prevents an eliminated participant from staying in a later round.

This version is single elimination. It does not record scores, manage a consolation bracket, assign match times or provide a shared live tournament link. PDF export is a round-by-round match list, not a wide bracket diagram.

Keep and share your result

Exports use the current result without generating again. After editing inputs, generate a new result to apply the changes. Downloaded PDFs use high-resolution page images on A4 paper; they are printable but their text is not selectable. Use available copy or CSV options when you need editable text.

Your entered names, words, clues and tasks are processed in this browser. These tools do not upload them, put them in the URL, store them in browser storage or include them in analytics events. Refreshing or leaving the page discards the current result. General site analytics still run; see the privacy policy.

Tournament Bracket Generator FAQs

Can I make a bracket for an odd number of teams?

Yes. Enter any count from 3 to 32. Empty starting slots become byes, which advance participants automatically.

How many matches are in a seven-team bracket?

Six played matches determine the champion. The eight-slot bracket has one first-round bye.

Can I randomize the seeds?

Yes. Enable Shuffle seeds before generating. Otherwise input order defines seeds, starting with seed one.

What happens if I correct an earlier winner?

The corrected winner advances, and subsequent winner selections on that path are cleared. Other branches stay intact.

Can I print or save my tournament?

Download match list PDF saves the current opponents and selected winners by round. State is kept only in this open page; export before refreshing or leaving.
